So, what really is career day. Career day. The goal of career day is to provide students with a dynamic experience that facilitates a connection between their academic pursuits and potential careers. This gives them a better understanding of their future and plan. My career day was very fun and informative. I spent my career day with Doug Logan. He is a Civil Engineer that works at the organization Rancho Coaster Civil Engineering and Surveying. I went to his office where he introduced me to all his co-workers. He then took me different job sites and meetings around Del Mar and Carlsbad where he showed me how difficult people could be to work with. He gave me many blueprints and plans for houses being built in the near future. He taught me on how to use some soft wares necessary for the job. Civil engineering has a lot of freedom. You can dress as you'd like wherever you go. In order to be a successful civil engineer you have to be really good at math, reading, writing, and with computers. As a civil engineer you are most often on the move. You're always going to be doing something. Starting from checking your 300 emails a day about business deals to driving to LA organizing the construction of a family's house. My present and future math classes are truly improving my chances as a Civil engineer as the years go by. I'm always going to have to grow as a writer and speaker in order to be a good Civil Engineer. Humanities is definitely helping out. Doug recommended I work hard to get a masters and you will have a high chance finding a good job. I learned a lot about Civil Engineering as a whole. I learned that you got to be really good at negotiating and have really good patience. People who don't know anything about constructing could be very difficult to work with. Simply because they don't know why this cost this much and how long it really takes to construct. I'm definitely interested in becoming a civil engineer. I really like the environment and the collaboration essential for the jobs. I feel it would be a very exciting job that I would happy to do. I would like to shadow another career to see if there is something else that suits me. 1 thing I will do differently next year is to actually take pictures. I didn't know at them time that I had to take pictures so I didn't worry about it. I think overall this was a very successful career day and I'm looking forward to the next one.
