I think the most difficult part of this project would be the Renaissance costume. I put a lot of money into my costume and it was very difficult to find. Starting from finding it online and then shipping time. I think it would’ve helped if I worked on this earlier. In my opinion, I would find it a lot less stressful if we were not responsible for it. I wore a cavalier costume which represented my character Samuel de Champlain. (Note: these were all beliefs on what Champlain looked like so I chose the most credible.)
We experienced this project throughout all our classes. These classes were English, History, Math, and Art. These were all different in many ways. In English we made presentations about our historic figure and made written pieces. In History, we learned really funny dances and researched pivotal points in history that have affected our world today. In Math we made games of chance that originated in the dark ages or renaissance. In art we researched artists that were in some way revolutionary.
I enjoyed learning about my character Samuel de Champlain and studying his journey. I found him very fascinating as he was a man of many professions. The book I made for him took a lot of time and effort. I made maps of North America and of what he saw during his time as a captain. The English portion of my project introduced me not only to a new inspiration but opened me up to new historical figures.
I enjoyed the mental floss portion of the project. History has always been so interesting to me. I like to see what shaped our world today. My favorite mental floss so far was the Crusades. Religions battling over territory for so many years to then come upon agreement to share it. People only continue to evolve, but is it for the better? What will our generation be seen as in history?
I enjoyed that I was able to explore the variety of games from the Dark ages. There aregames you've never evenheard of that actually formed popular games today. For example there is a game called Hazard which was the original Chutes and Ladders. It originated in Persia and somehow became global which absolutely shocked me.
I researched and found many artist that fall under my interests and it was so hard to decide which one I would choose. It was difficult but I decided to choose a Mexican artist who reignited the art scene in Mexico. His name is Dr. Atl. I found his art unique and I liked the material he used. He faded chalk pastels making a wavy pattern across the canvas. This led to me exploring new patterns and materials.
In my opinion if I can rate this project from 1-10 in difficulty, I would give it a 4. It wasn't that difficult. I only struggled to find and purchase my costume. When it came to exhibition, I found that the final product was very successful. I caught a lot of people’s attention with my ridiculous costume and fake boots. Parents were very impressed with my final products as well as my guild’s work.
